Users on a low-level hacker forum posted the phone numbers and personal information of hundreds of millions of Facebook users on the Internet for free. The disclosed data includes personal data of 533 million Facebook users from 106 countries/regions, including 32 million user records. In the United States, there are 11 million users in the UK and 6 million users in India. It includes their phone number, Facebook ID, full name, location, date of birth, BIOS, and in some cases email address. We chose to filter the data and verify multiple records by matching the phone numbers of famous Facebook users with the identifiers given in the records.

We also verify the record by verifying the recorded email address in Facebook’s password reset function, which can partially display the user’s phone number. Ga Alon Gal, CTO of the pioneering company Cyber Hudson Rock, said data breaches can provide valuable information to cybercriminals who use personal information to forge or mislead credentials. He said: “A database containing personal information (such as the phone numbers of many Facebook users) will undoubtedly encourage attackers to carry out social engineering attacks or hacking attacks.” Gal is an insider. Facebook did not immediately respond to numerous requests for comment.

Gal discovered the vulnerability in January, when a user on the same hacker forum announced an automated bot that could provide charged phone numbers to hundreds of millions of Facebook users. The motherboard announced the existence of the robot and confirmed that the data was legal. Now, the entire data set has been published for free on a hacker forum, so anyone with a basic understanding of the data can use it. This is not the first time that a large number of Facebook user phone numbers have been published on the Internet. It was discovered in 2019, so it is possible to delete the phone numbers of millions of people from Facebook servers in violation of the terms of service.

Facebook said the vulnerability was fixed in August 2019. In the 2016 general election, the data of 80 million users who violated Facebook’s terms of service targeted voters for political ads. Gal said that for security reasons, Facebook cannot provide much help to users affected by hackers because their data is already publicly available. He added that, however, Facebook can notify users so that they can use “when all users registered with a well-known company such as Facebook trust their data, Facebook should share this data with them.” Gal Trust said that treating them with the utmost respect must be treated accordingly.
