There are many rumors around the world for the COVID-19 vaccine but now World Health Organization’s chief scientist clear it with her recent statement. People may have to wait until 2022 to get COVID-19 vaccine, according to the WHO’s chief scientist, who said that health workers and high risk patients will be prioritized.

Soumya Swaminathan said that, despite the many trials of vaccine being done, speedy, bulk stock of vaccine were impossible, and it was still being worked on that who will be given first priority in the event of discovery of safe vaccine.

“Most people agree for giving priority to healthcare workers and frontline workers, but still you have to define which of them are at high risk and then comes on elderly and so on,” Swaminathan said. “There are lot of guidance coming from different sources, but I think young people might have to wait until 2022 to get a vaccine for COVID-19.”

She added that the world will hopefully get at least one safe & effective vaccine in 2021, but it will be available in “limited stocks only.”

“People think that in January or in April, we’ll get the COVID-19 vaccine, and then everything will gonna be normal,” Swaminathan said. “It’s nothing like that.”
